🚀 We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️

📍Madrid, Spain  | 💰 €75,000 - €95,000, Incentive Awards tied to your performance ➕benefits | Hear from the team ✨

⭐ About the team:

This is a unique opportunity to shape Monzo’s international expansion and play a key role in launching and scaling our next generation of markets.

Sitting at the intersection of strategy, commercial and execution, you’ll help us understand what it takes to win in each market - from identifying the biggest opportunities and understanding customer needs, to shaping our local proposition, building the commercial case and making launch happen.

As a Strategy & Commercial Manager, you'll work closely with the Spain GM and country team, acting as a strategic and commercial thought partner. You'll take ownership of complex, ambiguous business problems, from identifying opportunities and understanding market dynamics to building commercial cases, shaping recommendations and helping turn decisions into action.

You'll bring together insights and expertise from Product, Data, Research, Finance, Marketing, Operations and other teams to build a holistic view of the business, identify what matters most and help us succeed in Spain.

We're looking for someone with strong commercial judgement, structured problem-solving skills and a bias for action, someone who thrives on ownership, enjoys connecting the dots and is excited by the challenge of building a new market in a fast-moving, highly regulated environment

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Own the end-to-end view of country performance. Track the performance of the full customer journey, from acquisition, sign-up and activation to engagement, satisfaction, incidents, retention and profitability, across both Personal and Business Banking
  • Build market and competitor intelligence. Develop a deep understanding of the Spanish banking landscape, including competitor propositions, pricing, incentives, customer trends and relevant regulatory developments. Translate external market movements into commercial insights, opportunities and recommendations for Monzo's positioning and growth.
  • Build data-driven commercial business cases. Leading commercial assessments of opportunities, partnerships, incentives and strategic initiatives, bringing together financial, customer and market inputs to support investment and prioritisation decisions.
  • Anticipate risks, incidents and second-order effects. Identify issues early, understand root causes and assess how they could affect customers and the business over time.
  • Act as a strategic and commercial partner to the Spain GM and country team. Bring together the latest performance insights, market intelligence and recommendations to support key decisions, strategic discussions and stakeholder engagement. Help structure and coordinate cross-functional initiatives, ensuring the right questions are answered and decisions translate into action.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have experience in management consulting, investment banking, commercial strategy, business operations or financial services, ideally with exposure to high-growth or international businesses.
  • You're highly analytical and commercially minded, with strong problem-solving, financial modelling and data analysis skills. You can translate complex information into practical commercial recommendations.
  • You're comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous problems, independently structuring questions, identifying what matters and driving work from initial analysis through to clear decisions and action.
  • You have strong commercial judgement and can connect customer needs, market dynamics, business performance and financial outcomes to identify opportunities and make informed trade-offs.
  • You're an excellent communicator and collaborative business partner, comfortable influencing senior stakeholders and working across functions.
  • You have a strong understanding of banking products, payments, local banking infrastructure and the economics of financial services, ideally within Spain or the wider European market.
  • You're proactive, curious and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  • You're humble, quick to learn and excited by the opportunity to help build and scale Monzo in a new market.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!
